One Hurt in Four-Car Crash in South Easton

December 23, 2012

Gavel

A recent four-vehicle crash in South Easton left one person hospitalized and another ticketed. Officer Keith Boone stated the rush hour accident occurred when an 18-year-old driver failed to yield to another motorist at a stop sign located at the intersection of Purchase and Turnpike Streets. Joseph Cohen of Stoughton allegedly turned directly into the path of a northbound car driven by Michael Hurley of Malden. Hurley reportedly struck Cohen's 2006 Buick before he was hit from behind by another vehicle. The series of crashes purportedly caused Hurley's automobile to be pushed directly into the path of a southbound car.

Following the accident, emergency responders from Easton transported Hurley to Brockton Hospital by ambulance for treatment. After local law enforcement officers reconstructed the injury accident, police ticketed Cohen for failure to yield.

In Massachusetts, car accidents may be caused by many factors including driver inattention, impairment, or inexperience. The victim of an unexpected motor vehicle collision may be entitled to receive financial compensation to cover the costs associated with medical care, physical therapy, lost wages and benefits, pain and suffering, and any disability that resulted from the incident. Certain relatives of someone who was killed in a Massachusetts car accident may also have a wrongful death claim.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts determines accident fault based on modified comparative negligence. This means someone who was hurt may receive a reduced damages award if he or she contributed to his or her own injuries in some way. In addition, the victim in an accident may not recover damages from another party if he or she was more responsible than the other party for any injuries sustained. Still, anyone who was hurt in an auto accident may be eligible to receive Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits from an insurance company regardless of fault. If you were injured in a car accident that was caused by a careless or otherwise negligent driver, you should contact a knowledgeable personal injury attorney to discuss your options for recovery.
